(ASCEND) MAX 4000 or 4048

I have two Max's.

The sticker on one of them says MAX 4000 and the other one has a sticker
that says MAX 4048.

I was told that they were both 4048's but how would I know if this was true.
If the one is really a 4000, I should be able to purchase the software to
enable the other two wan ports.  Right?

Can anyone help me out with this?
