RE: (ASCEND) The computer you are dialing into cannot establish a dialup connection...

* Just a quick educated guess ... I could be wrong, but could it be
the Disconnect-on-Auth-Timeout setting in Answer Defaults? I have seen
this setting many a time in TNT's, and I am not sure right off hand
where it is in the other model Maxes. [it is as follows on a TNT:]

admin> read answer
ANSWER-DEFAULTS read
admin> list ppp
[in ANSWER-DEFAULTS:ppp-answer]
enabled = yes
receive-auth-mode = pap-ppp-auth
disconnect-on-auth-timeout = yes
bridging-group = 0
link-compression = none
mru = 1524
lqm = no
lqm-minimum-period = 600
lqm-maximum-period = 600
cbcp-enabled = no

admin>

* You could change that setting, and test yourself with a modem and
see if that is it. Most of the TNT's that I support are far away
from me, so I don't often dial into them for testing. I would be
curious of the results. It has to be something like that. Something
in the way to handle the call ANSWER or Progress, with Radius or
such authentication being in the middle of those things.

P.S. PM2's ehhh??? Some days when I am feeling nostalgic I remember
PM2's with a rack full of external modems hanging off of them and
all of those lovely RS232 cables, and all of the phone connector
cables hanging off of the modems ;-) We had the modem audio on until
connect ... and I often miss the modems singing to me all day long.
That was when you really felt like an ISP! And what about all of those
LED "Blinky Lights"? ;-)
[we could hear when a modem was stuck and go over into the computer
room and reset it manually with the power switch.]

dialup connection...

Hi,

This is a strange question for you. When I had pm2s doing analog dialup,
when a customer dialed in using the wrong password, windows 9x would prompt
them for their username and password again without disconnecting. With the
ascend maxes, it disconnects them immediately. For tech support reasons, I
would like to make the maxes act similar to the portmasters...Does anyone
know if this is possible and does anyone know what causes this?

Thanks,
Daniel
