RE: (ASCEND) Takes soooo long to here the first beep.

Geeze, I'm sorry...After twenty seconds or so is when the modem finally
answers...So that tone after twenty seconds is the modem answering...It just
takes an Awful amount of time to answer. When the user hears the solid
tone, it's immediately after they dial and then the modem in the max never
does answer. It sounds like the call was routed to the HDLC controller, but
every channel is set to slot 4...

Ah, I remember now. You are wrong and right. On PRI, a call comes in on
the D channel, if ALL b channels are being used, then you will get a busy.
IF the RAS is capable, as is the max, and there are no more available
modems, it will return a busy code on the D channel and the caller will
also get a busy. On CT1, youll get dead silence when there ARE channels
but not enough modems. The tone 20 seconds later must be something the max
is sending out because there are no modems available.

We use PRI here so I know how they work and I guarantee you get a busy
when there are open channels but not enough modems.
