 I don't see any reason to change the system to
make it easier to raise the stats.  As I said , it isn't
too difficult right now.

 Also, the number of improvements is important, as you can not use
a weapon taht has been improved more than your level.  So this sort
of encourages improving the wapon by great steps (and
also puts a limit on how + the weapon will be, since each of those
is an improvement.)
