CF: class system

The only problem that I see with the current race and skill based system
is that it is an incomplete list of reasonable race and skill categories.
That one can argue a character could be a dwarven mage and so on. This
incompleteness also extends to the monsters as there simply are not
dwarven mages within the game as monsters either.

I think the best way to solve this is to expand the list of monsters
and playable archetypes.

Part of the problem with the current system comes up when creating a
character as the player first selects which roll for which attribute
and then that gets severely altered by race/class/skill selection. An
advantage of using race/class/skill is that allows player to select an
appropriate icon.

If the character generation was modified to have x attribute points
which player assigned to desired attributes with the number of points
to assign and min/max attributes is class based then a player can
accurately specify their desired starting character. Using rolls is
truly silly since a knowledgable player can simply reroll and assign
rolls until they get the starting base they want. Then having class
adjustments is user unfriendly since it requires knowing the adjustments.
So to start a player with desired attributes requires assigning rolls
and knowing how the desired char class will adjust them.

Also, a character should be able to at any time be able to change
displayed icon to that of any skill. So a char starting off as human
should be able to be displayed as a mage, cleric and so on. And if
focus of player changes then change their icon again.

I am actually interested in making the changing to char generation to
have base values with player allocated attributes as suggested above.
So unless there is a good counterargument then this change may appear.
I would also like to address the current awful GUI of character
generation (requiring looping through all possible classes and so on).
