Thanks. In hindsight, I think that was probably one of those dumb 
questions only a Mac luser could ask, right?

But now that I've snooped around on the relevent RedHat pages, I see 
that they only have the same version as in their 5.2 release, so I 
would not in fact be upgrading.

Maybe I should just generalize my question: how do you get MidNight 
Commander to work?
