Re: [TCLUG:10777] RE: StarOffice - changed to an anti-anti-NT rant
Staroffice, as it runs on my PII350 w/128MB PC100 SDRAM:
Multi-threaded 8 processes
Avg. Memory Use 1.4-1.8%/process
Total Memory Use 11.2-14.4% (14.34-18.43MB)
XF86_MACH64
Total Memory Use 0.1%
Avg CPU 0-2.9%
Loading Netscape 25-30% CPU
(Netscape ~30% CPU)
1:53pm up 1 day, 5:03, 5 users, load average: 3.30, 3.34, 3.30
75 processes: 70 sleeping, 5 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped
CPU states: 46.6% user, 45.6% system, 7.7% nice, 0.0% idle
Mem: 128012K av, 113008K used, 15004K free, 80072K shrd, 2864K buff
Swap: 130748K av, 7468K used, 123280K free 43580K cached
I guess my point is that I load this workstation pretty heavily. I run X,
WindowMaker, Gnome Panel, gnomified X-Chat, StarOffice, Citrix Metaframe
Client, Netscape, Seti@HOME, distributed-net, etc... I mean, hell...the load
average is in the 3's!!! *grin*
I haven't seen anything to complain about. In fact, I'm very pleased with the
system. It's not the fastest in the world, and it's not stocked to the gills
with memory, but it runs the average network management workstation load very
well. I would venture to say that aside from having 128 MB of memory, I've got
a pretty typical system for admin work and office work.
It's fun running VMWare, though. Just watching the swap memory get hit HARD
when I start up Windows NT Server. *grin* Anyway, I think our discussion about
which office software is better and why is pretty much dead. Can we move on to
something else?
