Re: [TCLUG:10969] GNOME configuration questions/musings

It's called Econfig I think. I'd suggest you avoid the
latest E updates (0.16.1+) as they have some severely broken
parts that cause it to crash and burn constantly. If you
absolutely want to use it, the 0.16.0 release seemed to be
the last one not suffering from a crack overdose.

Do you have /etc/conf.modules set up correctly?

I've been using gnomeicu for quite awhile and haven't
had the weird problems you described. Maybe someone tweaked
it badly for rh 6.1, because it works fine on 6.0 and SuSE
6.2 for me. For alternatives, there are probably decent
text based ones, but I haven't found another besides
gnomeicu and kicq (I think) that don't totally suck.

What do you mean by mail configuration, are you trying
to set up sendmail/qmail/postfix? I'm on dialup, and all I
do is have procmail forward junk from all my accounts to
this one, then have procmail here filter that off into the
appropriate place. Storing all my mail server side is nice,
especially when I get the sudden urge to purge and install a
new OS. Don't have to worry about losing important info
this way.

Netscape is another one of those programs with a
substance abuse problem. Which version are you running?
4.61 that ships with SuSE 6.2 has worked fairly well so far;
it hasn't even trashed my bookmarks yet! 4.5 and earlier
have problems with java, so if that's what you're using it's
time to take a hint from the Jefferson's and move on up.
