my sound died

My sound has died. I can play audio cd's, but nothing else (wav, mp3,
etc). I re-ran sndconfig and it autodetects my awe-64 fine, but I don't
hear the test sound. x11amp says device in use. I tried unloading and
reloading my sound modules via modprobe -r, but when I try 'modprobe -r
awe_wave' I get "Device or resource busy" How can I find out what program
is using the device (which I believe is causing all my problems). I did
'ps aux' but I don't see anything sound related (esd isn't loaded or
anything). Any ideas?

Thanks,

Ben

I'd a helluva lot rather have them talking about this than the fact the fact we
are the party of the rich and that prices are high. This story is not helpful
but, to the average guy, whether the Republicans bugged the Democrats doesn't
mean a goddamned thing. It means something to intellectuals. It means something
to people who are concerned about repression and credibility and all that
bullshit. But the average guy is chewing his pretzel."
