I did, but it does one of two things (with the --copy-unsafe-links flag):
if the symlinks link to files that don't exist, then it overrides the link
with the actual file. If the symlink goes to a real file, it doesn't
updated the file (the link is the same?) , but it works fine for
directories. hmmm
