Firewalling inside of Linux

When you use linuxconf to create a firewall using the firewall-module, where
does linuxconf store the ipchains files?

I am curious because on reboot firewall rules created via linuxconf are
automatically loaded and I would like to put my hand altered configuration
files in places of the linuxconf generated files.
