After banging my head on a hard-freeze problem that seems somehow
related to IDE, I have discovered that badblocks is essentially useless
on IDE devices (hard drives, at least).  Most IDE drives do some sort of
bad block relocation automatically, so badblocks shouldn't return
anything (if it does, then you're in _real_ trouble).

OTOH, badblocks can be a godsend with those stupid POS floppy disks ;-)
