have done a few experimental archives/restores with tar now. will try cpio
and maybe afio (is there an rpm for afio? anyone ever touched it?)
this DDS-3 drive on Linux is slick. :) it's *fast*; and tar beats the crap
out of any of the Winblows backup systems any day of the week. :)
tar czvf /dev/st0 <path> to archive
tar xvzf /dev/st0 <filename> to restore any file you want. :)
beats the crap out of clicking buttons and waiting half an hour and hoping
the damn thing doesn't crash. :) (which it frequently did. Micro$haft Backup
actually had a decent interface as backup systems go; but it crashed about
half the time while trying to start doing something).
