RE: [TCLUG:8707] Bidir Cable (was: Re: [TCLUG:8688] mack address)



M1 is all dynamic.  They gave you a static IP (192.168.100.2), but that
wasn't public.  The one way used DHCP for a dynamic IP too (at least for the
public Ips) but your modem handled all that so it was transparent to your
computer.

I asked about a static IP, one guy had no idea of what I spoke, and a
different guy said they don't "do that".  I've talked to some other people
with M1 2 way in other states and they said the DHCP lease never expires, so
unless your dumb oaf neighbor plows through your cable line with a garden
hoe you will be just fine with your borrowed IP for a while.

I have a static IP right now with the 1-way modem but the 2-way uses
DHCP which I think gives a dynamic IP?
