No, you really do want platform independance built in to how files or
organised.  Lets say i have 50 low-end machines, 1/3 sparc, 1/3 ppc, and
1/3 x86.

You tell *me* how much fun it is to have 3 seperate soft trees.  Or if I
could have just trees with platform dependant stuff and one platform
independant tree.
