I don't know what distro you're using, but I know that Caldera OpenLinux
automatically recognizes all of my memory.

I had a machine with 64MB or RAM and upgraded that to 96, When I restarted,
linux (kernel 2.2.10) recognized it all.

Now I have a machine with 128MB and from install, never have had to change
anything to see all 128 MB or RAM.

Maybe it's your distro?
