bzImage does not boot

Hi-

When I compile a bzImage kernel, put it in / or /boot, edit lilo.conf,
and reinstall System.map and run lilo, the system will not boot.

The system boots fine with a zImage kernel. When I use a bzImage, the
system gets to the "Uncompressing kernel..." boot message, and the
system hangs. I have to do a hardware reset and use a different
(uncompressed) kernel.

My system is an AMD k6 333, 64MB ram. I'm running slackware, though the
problem was the same with RedHat, as well as with several versions of
the kernel.

Is there documentation that explains how to fix this? Could this be a
kernel bug? Am I doing something wrong?

thanks,
-R
