For that matter, it wasn't until around the latter days of the 486 that
BIOSes could succesfully auto-detect drive geometries.  You may need to
manually enter the geometry (heads, cylinders, etc) into the BIOS as a
"custom" setting.  Easiest way to do that is figure out how the machines
that are working properly are registering it, and copy those settings into
your 486.  If that doesn't work, then, well, I have a couple of 120MB drives
lying around I could sell you cheap...
