migrating users
Hey everyone,
Let's say I've got a server running some distribution of Linux and I'm going
to change to a different distro on that same box. I've got a separate /home
partition, so users' directories will be unaffected. Distro A and B might
have a different set of daemon "users" in /etc/passwd and may use different
standard UIDs and GIDs for users.
How can I make the users' accounts continue to work with their old passwords
after I reinstall the system? Using the same /etc/passwd file causes
problems because of the differences I mentioned above.
Is there a standard approach?
