Re: [TCLUG:918] gcc vs. egcs

Since I have a Pentium system, I use egcs with the pentium compiler patch
(version pgcc-2.90.27 980315 (egcs-1.0.2 release)).

The 2.1.* kernels have no problems with the egcs compiler, but I've heard
the 2.0.* kernels are a bit iffy (I've been using the experimental kernels
now for about 3-4 months).

I've been compiling strictly with the egcs compiler, and I've run into few
problems. The only problem I have had is with comiling X libraries, which
depend on regular gcc. Otherwise, I've compiled KDE, image libraries, the
GIMP, the 2.1 kernel series, and many other programs with no problems.

I run Slackware 3.4 (soon to be replaced with Redhat :).
