(Dave, I don't belong to Vanilla List so can you forward this to them?)

I hope many of you don't mind me participating--I've been out of the
Netrek for two plus years.

Back a couple years ago, army hoarding was becoming more popular. At the
time I noticed it a frustrating strategy for inferior teams. Genocides
started to disappear because of it. But still the dominant teams one.
Towards the end things started to change, but I suspect it was because some
of the most dominant bases (_maniac, el0g, ahn) started to disappear or
became significantly weaker. The other base players lost their ability to
hold the front.

I'm curious whether the dominant SB players have disappears. Certainly,
synced ogs had removed the Balton's of the world, but I find it hard to
believe that the front today is any more dangerous for a base then it was in
the past. And good SB players were a rare breed even in the heyday (before
my time).

I was wondering if there is any discussion going around about
repackaging netrek to make it look better and more user friendly as well as
taking advantage of the web documentation. If it's done correctly, perhaps
netrek rpm's can make a reappearance in many Linux distributions? I have an
archive of the entire Netrek Clue Archive if anyone is interested. I don't
know how useful it'll be now that most websites (including the one I work
for) are database driven. Maybe if I had some spare time...

    Take care,

        terry (_maggot) tychay@zipasia.com

P.S. I'm in San Jose now. If you are ever in the area, look me up. I don't
have any time to Trek though.
