At our model exchange facility, I once had a Max, a switch, a primary
rate, and a PC-and-modem all the in same room, and I couldn't get past
48k. :)

Mind you - this was an older software release... Our production testing
over ISDN/Net 5 got pretty good speeds, particularly with generic
rocky-based modems... But never the 56k. Which we'd expected to happen
anyway. :)

Speaking of which - we've proved Maxes do a lot better running R2
signalling than they do ISDN. We've done some analysis over thousands of
connections, indexing cause code by Max - comparing Maxes running R2 vs.
those on ISDN. Maxes all run the same software version, and are configured
identically. The R2 boxes have markedly less 185 and 11-type disconnects -
in one especially good chassis, over 80% of my disconnects are normal code
45s.
