(ASCEND) v.35 pinout?

I am trying to connect a MAX 2024 to an external CSU/DSU via the V.35
port. Rather than spend $$$ and time trying to order one of these
surprisingly difficult to obtain cables, I have decided to just make one.

I have heard rumors from this list that the pinout for the cable given in
the documentation may be incorrect. I heard one instance of someone
spending a week down before they realized their V.35 cable was wired
incorrectly, and another case of someone who had to talk to a number of
people before getting the right pinout in their cable.

Is the documentation correct? If not, what is the right pinout?
I have:

Pair	MAX male DB44	Host male v.35
1	1 A
	8 J

2	39 P
	40 S

3	30 R
	29 T

4	41 Y
	42 AA

5	32 V
	31 X

6	38 U
	37 W

7	6 H
	11 E

8	9 F
	25 B

9	7 D
	36 C

I assume this needs to be shielded cable. If it's not shielded (heh),
what's the maximum length I can safely use without mangling my data?

Any advice would be appreciated. :)
