Speaking about the 6.1 betas, it might have been a good idea to test
the new modem code together with an otherwise proven and stable platform 
like 5.0A.
That would have made the debugging process at lot easier for us, IMHO.

BTW, has anyone else noticed that the 1.160T code in 5.0ApX behaves
differently than 1.160T in 6.0.7? 
A handful of our users with V.34 modems are seeing connect problems 
with 6.0.7, going back to 6.0.2 or 5.0Ap48 fixed it. Strange...
