The MAX 4000 suppports local user profiles, TACACS, TACACS+, and RADIUS
for authentication.  So, no, you cannot use SAM _instead_ of RADIUS for
authentication.  However you can use SAM _in addition_ to RADIUS for
authentication, if you get a RADIUS server that supports the use of SAM.
Most RADIUS servers that run on MS Windows NT, provide such a capability.
