(ASCEND) Max 4004 Modem Tones

Anyone who can provide help on this would be greatly appreciated...

We have a max 4004 with release 6.1.7 software, 2 PRIs and 48 modems (12
port 56K modem modules).  The problem is that 2 weeks ago, I started
getting what sounds like dial tone (I think it is like K56Flex modem tone)
followed by the V.90 bleep.  Prior to this, I was just getting the V.90
bleep and on all my other V.90 boxes, I only get the V.90 bleep.  I have
not changed anything on the first max!!!  It is severely affecting modem
connections...is there a place in the software to get rid of the initial
modem tone, i.e turn it off, or get by that with my users?  Not sure why
one minute the v.90 bleep is all that is there and next it is now getting
a dialtone sound during that silence phase before the v.90 bleep.
