(ASCEND) Radius that checks for milti logins

We have been using the Merit Radius for years now without to much problem. 
We have tried adding the "Ascend-Maximum-Channels = 1," command and when
we do it looks like the MAX 4048 is sending back information to the radius
server that it does not understand. 

Does the Max 4048 check to see if a users is already on line by way of the
radius server?  If so, what is everyone using for a radius server that
will perform this function?  This is on a Unix box.
