I think what you are trying to do is have your telnet attempt authenticated
via RADIUS. This will be a feature of TAOS 7.2, but is not currently
possible in 7.0 or earlier. The telnet password is currently set in the
Ethernet->Mod Config menu. 

The 'wierdness' is pseudo-user configuration. The MAX sends these upon
reboot. See the documentation for more information.
