(ASCEND) Auto Negotiating Ethernet?

Awhile back I purchased a D-Link dual speed hub.  It autonegotiates between 
10 and 100mbps ethernet.  My Max 6000 just refused to work with this hub 
(although it works fine with my old 10mbps hub) and I ended up putting 
everything back on the old one.

I've done some searching of the mailing list archives and noticed others 
with similar problems, but didn't find any real solutions.

I'd appreciate any clues or advice on how to make this work.  This hub 
doesn't give me an option to set any of the ports to something specific.  I 
may end up having to buy a better hub, but I'd rather not unless it was my 
only option :)
