RE: [TCLUG:7329] X10 offer
I got one too. Had no problem getting it working with BottleRocket. I think
I just had to change the serial device node hard coding. It's a very simple
program. I tried the tk interface (RocketLauncher, i think), but it was
kinda dumb. I liked the command line better. Just as a gimmick I've put it
as cron jobs, so that the lights in my house come on and go off at scheduled
intervals.
What i'm really interested in is, using IBM's ViaVoice (the *free* one we
saw at RH Rev Tour) to interface with a listener (a deamon of somekind) that
parses word strings received from viavoice and invokes appropriate
bottlerocket commands. Then all I would need would be, microphones in each
room that can pick up the commands. The guy at the ViaVoice booth said
something about the speech recognition library being freely available for
anyone to use.
I was wondering if anyone tried the ViaVoice pkg on the 3rd RH6.0 CD. The
readme says somewhere that it needs an mmx processor. Unfortunately i've
only got a P150. Is this a requirement or a recommendation ? (i could check
with ibm viavoice support, but ...) What upsets me is that microsloth's
speech engine (which is free btw) works on a lower configuration. But I
haven't found a free speech recognition software (like viavoice) that works
on MS. Is there any other speech recognition software for linux ?
Also, any ideas how i could go about getting microphones through out my
house. Like, how do they all connect to the sound card (right now i just
have the single desktop mic) ? Do we need to be able to differentiate
between them ? What if seperate mics pick up audio simultaneously ? I have
no clue what is involved here.
Any thoughts ?
TIA
