I bought a generic 56Kflex modem (actually made by Best Data, But it came in a
box with no manufacturer's name on it) at CompUSA for $40. It's not
plug-n-play (which is what I wanted), and it works fine. I've had it installed
in my P-100 and my Alpha - no worries.
