RE: [TCLUG:3985] static on sound card



what kind of CPU do you have? and do you have "halt on idle" set on in APM in
your kernel.. there is a feature in cyrix (i don't know about AMD or intel)
that allows the CPU to go into a susspend state when the OS calls halt to idle
the CPU. this meens that if the cpu is using <1% CPU time.. the cpu runs with
almost no power.. when you have a CPU that draws 5 amps.. that's a lot of
savings, in heat, and in energy.  it also keeps the CPU running cooler.  all
this with no loss of preformance.. then again.. if you run RC5.. it's totaly
useless to have this feature.
