relocating RedHat KDE RPMs -- UPDATE

Well, I posted a question about this a while back, and I finally went
ahead and tried it.

Downloaded RedHat's KDE RPM's from RedHat 6.0 Updates, and installed them
with --relocate /usr=/opt/kde (I had created /opt as a separate partition
a long time ago when KDE first came out)

Files installed there just fine. I thought I was in good shape. The first
bad sign was when I tried to run kppp from Window Maker (what I use
primarily) and it gave me the error about not loading shared libraries.
Seen it before. Well, for a lark, I copied the ones it was complaining
about from /opt/kde/lib to /usr/lib. . . and it worked. Hmph. Well, I made
KDE my interface and logged back in. Icons are all missing, help system
won't work, and it couldn't find templates, mime types, etc., so I'm
assuming it's expecting to find appropriate material in /usr/share, when
it's actually in /opt/kde/share.

So, to the very small percentage of you who may have even considered this
project--don't. It's a pain. Maybe I'm in a small minority, but shame
on RedHat for making this stuff only work if you put it in /usr. I wish
they had just left things the way KDE designed them and made KDE install
into /opt/kde.

Now I'm going to spend the rest of the evening downloading stuff from
ftp.us.kde.org (Grrr....)

Cheers,
Joel
