Well, using the -v flag helped me find problem..  I forgot to change the ip
address for my hostname in /etc/hosts after moving up here this fall.. (oops)

By default, SSH sets the DISPLAY variable to '<hostname>:10.0', rather than
something more logical like 'localhost:10.0' (well, that seems more logical to
me, anyway..)  Oh well, just proves you always have to make sure your hostname
is correct in the hosts file.
