Subject: Re: [TCLUG:8366] seagate 4/8GB DAT

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

A while back, I tried out a Sony SDT7000 (iirc), which is an external SCSI
DDS-2 (4GB) drive. I just linked /dev/st0 to /dev/tape and /dev/nst0 to
/dev/ntape, and it worked great. The st module was loaded, and I was able
to use tar and bru. AFAIK, most versions of mt have support for toggling
the hardware compression that some drives have.

Basically, anything SCSI should work great. Just make sure that SCSI tape
support is available. I've never used IDE tape drives, so I have no idea
how well they work, but I doubt that you'll find any non-SCSI DAT drives
anyway...

	Hope this helps,
	David
