Re: [TCLUG:8830] Quake2 - video and mouse not working correctly

I run Quake2 on my RH6.0 at work. (Great lunch breaks between
co-workers.) I have experienced some of the problems you are
experiencing...

Yea, I can't switch modes either. Buy a 3D card and don't worry about
it. They're really cheap now-days and you won't be sorry. I think a
Voodoo III is selling for $70 on http://www.pricewatch.com and it's
soooo easy to get running under Quake/QII/QIII. I use a Voodoo I that I
bought 2 years ago for $250. And it still rocks.

Make sure you don't have gpm running. Do a killall gpm before you start
quake. If you have a PS/2 mouse you might be out of luck. I have a PS/2
mouse and it jumps around uncontrollably while in SVGA mode. (soft) Try
a serial mouse if you have one laying around.

Due to running at 320x200. Very big pixels. Get a 3D card and you will
have pictures as smooth as silk.

You are running in 16 bit color (or more). Quake and Quake2 must be run
in 8 bit color. Use SVGA. (soft)

Yea, I get better results running glx rather than just gl. glx uses X to
control the mouse which seems to be a bit more stable and responsive.
