No mouse cursor in X

I just installed Linux Mandrake 7.1.  The installation asked if I wanted to
try X 4.0 and I said yes.  Now when I startx I have no mouse cursor.  The
mouse works - I get menus, buttons highlight when I hover, etc - but no
cursor.

Has anyone seen this behavior?  Any suggestions on how to proceed?  I should
probably switch to X 3.whatever,
but I'm not even sure how to do that.

My video card is a Matrox Mystique.
