I've got various Toshiba Satilites with various Chips and Technology cards
running X fine, so I know it's possible. Never seen a 69000 before. I must
check if we have one of those here I can play with.

Did you try letting RH use it's Xconfigurator? You can always go around
and tweak /etc/X11/XF86Config later.

It might be. I might also be a monitor misconfiguration thing, which is
why RH's tool might work, as it lets you choose "LCD Panel 640x480", which
is what I could get these things to run at. 

Can you try using an external monitor?
