What sort of problems are you having with SMP?  I run a 500Mhz dual celeron
system with very few problems.  I use SuSE 6.2 (I haven't upgraded to 6.3
yet).  When I compiled the kernel, I just had to enable SMP support and that
was that.  (I use a BP6 board, if that helps.)
