Connection speed
I'm sure this has probably come up before, but I can't recall what
the answer was.
Is there a way to determine what your modem connection speed is a
non-XWindows mode? I'm using Red Hat 6.
I'm currently having a problem using my mouse when the modem is
installed so I can not use any XWindow utilities to do this right now.
I'm asking this because my connection seems to be slower than what I
think it should be, but I would like to confirm.
I've been using a web utility at
http://www.computingcentral.com/topics/bandwidth/speedtest.asp to calculate
my speed. When I use it at work and when my husband uses it with his cable
modem connection, we seem to get numbers that we expect.
When I use the page on my Windows 98 machine I get numbers around
26Kbps. The Win 98 machine is connected to the internet via our Linux
machine. The Linux machine has a 56K modem which is connecting to a 56K
modem at our ISP. The machines are connected via a 10Mps Hub. We also have
a Win NT Server machine on the same network that also uses the Linux machine
as its gateway to the Internet.
Thanks for the help,
Jen
