Right now I'm in the phase of wondering if I'm just a raving lunatic.
Is this story really newsworthy? I don't know.. The whole thing might
just end up in the bin labeled 'Useless Facts'

However, on the subject of technology in general, I think it is an area
of the news that is under-reported (but then, I'm in the technology
community, and I really like to hear about new developments). But then,
the people who actually do report on technology often botch the story
badly. I watched the video streaming of Transmeta's 'coming out' last
week, and was apalled at reporters who repeated questions, asked things
that had been explicitly stated in the presentation (and were probably
available in the press packets they were given). In the days following
the announcement, I was extremely annoyed at the reporters who accused
Transmeta of overhyping their product before the presentation. Of
course, we all know that Transmeta hadn't said anything about anything
for over 4 years!

Anyway, enough with that little rant..

I would recommend that the Daily should try to do more tech stories,
though. There's all sorts of research going on around campus, but you
wouldn't know it by reading the Daily. Not to mention all of the
Internet-related stories that are possible. Does anyone at the Daily
know about Napster? Do they know that the dorm Ethernet setup is under
a big restructuring this semester?

Yes, that would be possible. But first, I'd rather that the Daily
checks out some of the general stuff by looking at the information at
places like opendvd.org. I wouldn't mind being a sounding board, just
to make sure that a reporter doesn't write something completely stupid.
However, I'm probably really biased about this story, so it would be a
very good idea for someone else to look at it too..

I see that area is missing any post-Y2K content ;-)

Heh, true. I've already done that a few times with other subjects.

Ahh Novell.. IPX.. The wonders of drive mappings and screwed up PATH
variables..

Makes me glad I'm not in High School anymore ;-) Makes me hope I can
find a job somewhere other than where I've been working the past 3
summers :-/

Oh well, I should stop avoiding sleep -- I've got an 8:00 AM lab on the
West Bank on a Saturday! Woohoo!
