Re: [TCLUG:5594] NO TCLUG meeting this Saturday. (Really RE: GUILinux Installers and RedHat/ Linux security.



RedHat 3.0 had a GUI installer that configured X and then did package
installation and selection right out of glint.  It wasn't all that, but
for those who *must* use the mouse for everything, it was pretty cool.
They dumped it for good reason; not everyone wants to install linux with
X.

Out of frustration, I repackaged a number of RedHat's packages in the
interest of making the thing more secure.  Eventually, I'll get around to
updating the 6.0 dist with my security patches since this is yet another
release of the RH dist where they've ignored my requests at locking some
of those gaping security holes down.
