relocating Red Hat KDE RPMS

Hi all,

I'm on a 28.8 connection--don't qualify for DSL yet--so I haven't gotten around
to downloading the kdebase and kdelibs packages from RH 6.0 Updates mirrors. My
original KDE stuff is installed in /opt/kde, and I'd like to keep it there.
However, I understand that RH's packages now install into /usr, and kde.org
cautions that some of their version 1.1.1 packages may not work on RH 6.0.

So the question is: does anyone have experience relocating Red Hat's KDE 1.1.1
RPMs to /opt/kde? It may very well work seamlessly, but I am just trying to
find out in advance before I spend all that time downloading them. Also I have
read that some RPMs can be made to resist relocation. Should I remove the old
KDE 1.1 packages? I seem to remember the ones provided by kde.org included a
big kde-applications RPM that Red Hat does not offer.

Cheers,

Joel
