My own wild and crazy guess would be that for some reason, your system isn't
recognizing those drives as CD drives..

Looking in /dev, I see that the /dev/sd* devices all have 8 as the major
number.  The /dev/scd* devices have 11.  Look in /proc/devices, see if the
entries for 8 and/or 11 are there.  Try mounting /dev/sda for the hell of it. 
Just try some things, I guess..  Heck, even try mounting /dev/st0.

As you can tell, I have no idea what I'm talking about, so maybe the best idea
is to ignore what I just said ;-)
