Installing Debian

My favorite way to install Debian is as follows:

	1. Obtain CD of current stable release or download and create
	2. Reboot machine w/bootable CD or floppies
	3. Follow simple ncurses install script to install base Debian
	4. Reboot the machine
	5. Follow 1st time boot script to set root password and new user.
	6. Reply 'NO' to installing software by computer "profile"
	7. Quit out of dselect
	8. Edit /etc/apt/sources.list to point to unstable distribution
	    tree of debian
	9. Configure dialup connection w/pppconfig (or network card to
	    ethernet)
	10. Connect to internet.
	11. apt-get update
	12. apt-get dist-upgrade 13. apt-get intall console-apt
	14. apt-find: search for desired packages and install. This will
fetch any package dependencies, libraries, etc.
	15. Configure X with XF86Setup
	16. Configure console mouse program gpm with gpmconfig.
	17. Done.
